THE LEADER OF AVVB: KAIJA WATTS by Maya Levine

Kaija Watts, a senior here at Ardsley High School, is one of the three captains on the Varsity Volleyball team — and she is the spotlight athlete for this issue! Kaija has been on the varsity team for three years and believes that there are many more components to a team than just playing and practicing. When asked what her favorite part of volleyball is, she passionately answered that it was the team aspect. She explained that “each team is different when it comes to the people on it, but once you start playing with your team for a while, they become like family.” The Ardsley Varsity Volleyball team has proven themselves united through its amazing season this year and its unbelievable section win last year. In addition to her accomplishments with her team, Kaija has won All-Tournament Player at the Panther Invitational at Walter Panas High School on October 12 — Ardsley’s first tournament win in years. Although Kaija was thrilled about her well-deserved award, she was extremely excited about her team's win. To her, being part of a team “is picking up your teammates on and off the court and putting in the extra mile for your team so as a unit we can all perform our very best to achieve our goals”.

Because of her sportsmanship and leadership, she would like to continue her volleyball career in college and continue to be a key component to her team. Kaija exemplifies all the criteria of being a true AHS athlete and we are looking forward to seeing everything she does in the future!
