MILES COOPERMAN: HOOPS AND HANDLING A PANDEMIC by Maya Levine

Miles Cooperman, a senior here at Ardsley High School is this issue's male spotlight athlete from the Ardsley Varsity basketball team!

Miles has been on the Varsity Basketball team since sophomore year and cannot imagine his life without the sport. He loves basketball because of the strong passion and emotion he gets to feel each time he plays. The competition combined with the rush of excitement when working with your team to win is an unbeatable feeling that Miles looks forward to each and every game. To him, being part of the team has been about accomplishing something bigger than yourself. Miles is always there to make sure he is there to congratulate a teammate when they do something well and he always makes it a point to be that same face to pick them up whenever they make a mistake. He claims that for the team to be successful, they need to trust each other and play for each other.

Because of this mindset, Miles was able to become close friends with the other boys both on and off the court and he knows that they will always have each other's backs no matter what. While Miles won’t be playing basketball on the collegiate level, he still owes the sport for having a major role in his life. In the fall, Miles will be continuing his academic career at Duke University, where he will be sure to find a way to continue playing and be involved in basketball.

When asked about the upcoming season that may be canceled due to Covid-19, Miles reports that the team is practicing some socially distanced workouts where each player gets their own hoop and ball. In hopes of returning to the court for his senior season, Miles is optimistic that the team will be ready for whatever COVID modifications are thrown their way.

Miles Cooperman exemplifies all of the sportsmanship, skill, and compassion of a true AHS athlete and we are looking forward to seeing everything he accomplishes in the future!
