THE BLOODY PROM CLASSICAND HORROR MOVIE FAVORITE by Christiana Stan

Recently, I took the time to sit down and watch the classic horror movie, Carrie. The film was given the title of a “cult classic” and proves itself to fall into this category. The movie touches on the negative effects that bullying and toxic parenting can have on a child, while also throwing in a sci-fi spin with telekinesis.

Throughout her life, Carrie has been sheltered and protected by her overly religious mother. This sheltering, though, goes beyond normal, including sheltering her from anything that is remotely considered a sin, which includes the menstrual cycle. Subsequently, Carrie is seen as abnormal, and a freak, by the rest of her senior classmates. Most bully her about every little thing, slowly bringing her to the edge of her limit. Carrie finally breaks when a cruel prank is pulled on her at her senior prom. Let’s just say, things don’t end well.

If you are more into a technical standpoint about how each actor performs, then here’s what I believe. With everyone’s amazing acting, no wonder Carrie was such a hit. With only a glance with her eyes and a blood-curdling scream, Sissy Spacek (who plays Carrie White) can immediately send butterflies to your stomach.

Moreover, no one can portray such a psychotic feel as Piper Laurie (who plays Mrs. White, Carrie’s mother) with simply a creepy smile. The way each actor depicts his/her character leaves chill and checks off each box on a hypothetical good acting list.

So, all in all, would I recommend this movie?

Yes, very much so. Although, I wouldn’t recommend it for everyone. It is quite creepy and it includes topics that may be sensitive for those who deal with mental health issues. Remember this movie is rated R, so please consider that before you watch. If that doesn’t faze you, then definitely go watch it!

You’ll be left thoroughly entertained, and will definitely confirm that this movie deserves the title of a cult classic.
