INTRODUCING MR. ESPOSITO by Kaleigh Silverstein

This year in Ardsley, we welcomed many new staff members to our school community. Included in this array of new faculty is our physics teacher, Mr. Esposito. He is teaching both Regents and conceptual physics in our school this year.

After growing up in Long Island, then teaching in Virginia for several years, Mr. Esposito finally ended up here at AHS. His clear passion for the subject makes learning physics so much more enjoyable for all of Mr. Esposito’s students. I had the pleasure of being able to interview Mr. Esposito and learn more about him.

When asked about his background, Mr. Esposito explained, “I grew up in Long Island, Suffolk County specifically.” After graduating from high school, Mr. Esposito went to Dowling College, and then he received his physics degree at Adelphi University.

Before coming to Ardsley, Mr. Esposito taught at Staunton River High School in Virginia. When he was teaching in Virginia, he taught both physics and astronomy. However, when he was asked whether he preferred physics or astronomy, he responded, “Definitely physics. Astronomy is also fun, but there isn’t enough math.” Clearly, Mr. Esposito enjoys math greatly. He revealed that in school his favorite subjects were math, chemistry, physics, and biology. He enjoyed these classes in that specific order.

Mr. Esposito did not feel his calling to become a teacher until later on. “I didn’t want to be a teacher when I was going into college. I actually wanted to become a dentist at first,” Mr. Esposito reveals. “Eventually, I realized that I enjoyed teaching much more.” There wasn’t a specific person that inspired Mr. Esposito to teach. He says that although he has family members who are also teachers, “that’s just a coincidence.” However, now he believes that he loves his job because he likes “the concept of being the one teaching rather than someone else teaching me.”

Mr. Esposito explained that he chose to teach physics because he was always fascinated by this subject. “I like to say that it is describing reality. Physics allows us to learn the rules of reality so that we can appreciate it more.” His insight and excitement are just two aspects that make him a dynamic and interesting teacher within the classroom.

Outside of teaching, Esposito also enjoys playing chess, reading, and spending time with his wife and puppies. To wrap up the interview, I asked Mr. Esposition what he loves most about Ardsley so far. He graciously responds, “ I would definitely say the best part is the community within the school and the town. Everybody here is so close together, which is definitely different from Virginia.”

All in all, we are so glad to have Mr. Esposito here in our Ardsley community and cannot wait to see where the year takes him.
